Sandals ups reward for missing writer

NEGRIL, Jamaica -- Sandals Resorts said it will double the reward for information leading to the return of missing travel writer Claudia Kirschhoch, who disappeared from here more than one month ago while on a press trip sponsored by the company.

Chairman Gordon "Butch" Stewart said Sandals will add another 1 million Jamaican dollars (about $25,000) to the pot, for a total of about $50,000.

"The first reward announcements triggered almost 400 calls [to police]. We hope the larger reward will generate more calls and perhaps loosen a tongue or two," said Stewart.

Kirschhoch, 29, an editor for Frommer's Travel Guides in New York, arrived in Jamaica on May 24 and was supposed to fly home to New York on June 1 but never did.
