CHENGDU, China -- Sheraton Hotels and Resorts last month hoisted
its ninth flag in China, this time above the Chengdu Lido Hotel in
the southwestern province of Sichuan.
Sheraton was the first international hotel company to enter the
Chinese market when it agreed to manage the Great Wall Sheraton
Hotel in Beijing 15 years ago. The company still manages that hotel
today.
In the past year alone, Sheraton opened properties in Suzhou and
Nanjing, and will add a 10th hotel in Shenyang later this year.
Located in the heart of Chengdu's commercial and entertainment
district, Sheraton said the 402-room Chengdu Lido Hotel is a good
choice for both business and leisure travelers, although it expects
business travelers to account for the lion's share of bookings.
The hotel opened with 200 rooms, banquet facilities and
restaurants in operation. Sheraton said it expects the hotel will
be fully functional in August.
To celebrate the hotel's soft opening, Sheraton is marketing a
rate of $88 per room, double. The price includes breakfast and is
valid through Aug. 31.
In order to attract business travelers, rooms are equipped with
international direct-dial phones with voice mail and data ports,
and they have work desks with ergonomic chairs.
In addition, the hotel offers a 24-hour business center with a
secretarial service, an in-house Internet facility, meeting rooms
and a ballroom.
The grand ballroom can accommodate up to 500 people. Three other
banquet rooms can accommodate up to 95 people.
Other amenities include a concierge, room service, valet
parking, a parking facility and an airport limousine service.
The rooms offer individually controlled air conditioning,
separate showers and bathtubs, safes, minibars, tea and coffee
service and hair dryers.
Active guests can work out at the health club, which includes a
sauna and steam room, a Jacuzzi, an outdoor swimming pool and
massage facilities. An indoor golf driving range is available at
the adjacent Sichuan Stadium.
Dining options include the Nova Cafe and Grill for Asian and
continental fare, and the Fontana Bar and Sidewalk Lounge for
coffees and beverages as well as homemade cakes and pastries. The
Celestial Court serves Cantonese and local Sichuan cuisine.
