NEW YORK -- Despite the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, packages to the
Dominican Republic are continuing to sell, according to Jason
Grippo, director of sales and marketing for Sunrise Tours here.
"The charters are still in place, and we are still going,"
Grippo said.
"We have confidence that the season will come through," he
continued, noting that sales "might be a little softer than we
anticipated."
Sunrise Tours pays 14% commission to travel agents, who account
for about 98% of the company's bookings.
The firm has not experienced many cancellations, said Grippo,
who finds that travelers are still "shopping around."
He assured agents that Sunrise Tours is "flexible" regarding
cancellations or postponements. "We work on a case-by-case basis,"
Grippo said.
Through Dec. 14, Sunrise Tours offers a series of seven-night
Puerto Plata vacations.
Inclusive rates range from $667 to $869 per person, double,
including roundtrip air from New York (Kennedy), hotel
accommodations, all meals and use of nonmotorized water-sports
equipment.
Properties include Ocean Palms Beach Resort, Rumba Heavens, Sol
de Plata Beach Resort and Paradise Beach Resort & Casino.
Sunrise Tours also packages deals to other destinations within
the Dominican Republic as well as to Mexico.
