ORLANDO -- Nearly three out of four leisure travelers said their
travel plans would not be influenced by the events of Sept. 11 or
the subsequent war on terrorism, according to a national poll
conducted a month after the attacks and days into the start of air
strikes on Afghanistan.
In a similar poll taken Sept. 12, 63% said the attacks would not
influence their travel plans.
The survey, conducted by Yesawich, Pepperdine & Brown,
indicated that of those who said their plans would change, 71% said
they would take fewer international trips (up from 60% in
September) and 61% said they would drive rather than fly whenever
they could (down from 68%).
Whatever their hesitation to travel, six out of 10 respondents
said they were receptive to recent promotional offers from
airlines, hotels, resorts and tour operators designed to revive
slumping business.
