WASHINGTON -- The State Department advised U.S. travelers in six
African countries that it has received reports of possible
terrorist attacks along the route of the Dakar, Senegal-Cairo Road
Rally.
"We take this information seriously," the department said in a
public announcement.
The rally passes through Senegal, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger,
Libya and Egypt, ending in Cairo on Jan. 24.
The department urged U.S. citizens in the region "to remain
vigilant" of their personal security and "exercise caution."
