Train World, a new museum for rail buffs, is set to open in Brussels Sept. 25.
The facility will feature a collection ranging from the oldest preserved steam locomotive in Belgium to the tricked-out carriages reserved for the royals. Visitors can play conductor at one of the interactive simulators or peruse the hundreds of train artifacts, including uniforms, paintings and train models, along with photos and film.

The Train World museum is located in the renovated 1887 Schaerbeek station in Brussels.
Also on view are three life-size train compartments and an authentic gatekeeper’s house.
Constructed at the site of the first rail track on the Continent, the museum is located in the renovated 1887 Schaerbeek station and in a new 86,000-square-foot building. The center is accessible via -- what else? -- train from Brussels Central, about eight minutes away.
Tickets are about $11 for adults.
