Located just inside the castellated city walls facing a plaza full of outdoor cafes, near the Nimes bridge and a 10-minute walk from the train station, this flag-bannered hotel provides the best value within the old city walls for individuals and small groups who cannot afford La Mirande. Few will find fault here, and most find the high rates worth the splurge.
This is a splendid old hotel, quasi-formal in a stodgy, old-fashioned way, and it has a long history of notable guests, including Napoleon, Maximilian, Pablo Picasso, Jacqueline Onassis and Charles Dickens.
