Long the queen of St. Croix resorts, commanding 340 acres of a former sugar plantation two miles east of Christiansted, this family-run hotel remains a strong contender in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The Buccaneer is steeped in St. Croix history as the grounds were once owned by Charles Martel, a Knight of Malta, when that group governed the islands. His sugar plantation once surrounded the prominent sugar mill near the entrance. Part of the original sugar mill sits close to the lobby where guests can visit and snap photos.
