Historic building, originally a convent in the XV century, set in a garden area of eight hectares in the Portuguese countryside.
Location and History
Situated on a pretty bluff 5 kilometers north of the old city center and its nearest competitor, the more casually elegant Pousada dos Loios, an hour's drive east of Lisbon, this full-throttle resort has been carved out of a 15th-century convent.
The resort is situated in the medieval walled town of Evora, one of Portugal's architectural gems that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Tracing its origins to an apparition of the Virgin Mary above the eponymous thorn bush in the fifteenth century, this stunning location has a history incorporating King John II (who held court here in 1481), King Manuel I, King Afonso V and King Sebastiao, who stayed at the convent.
