Location and History
Situated at 3,700 feet on a mountaintop, Skyline Lodge is just five miles from downtown Highlands, but its rugged surroundings make it seem much further than the 10-minute drive. The Midcentury building was constructed in 1930, and its angular, stone-and-wood design gives away the fact that the architect, Arthur Kelsey, was a student and friend of the iconic Frank Lloyd Wright.
The lodge was one of the first roadside inns for elite travelers exploring the Blue Ridge mountains, a seasonal hotel open only during the height of tourist season.
