Description
Hotel in restored 19th century Palace, surrounded by gardens; situated in residential area, near embassies.
Location and History
Perched upon one of Lapa's river-facing hills, this hotel overlooks Lisbon's most luxurious neighborhood. Here the spires and ivy-clad turrets of the scores of mansions and palaces fill the pretty skyline.
The 19th-century palace (once the private home of the Count of Valencas), along with its newer annex, is surrounded by gardens and sits atop a hill from where it surveys the city and river. Walks into town may be lengthy (the walk back is uphill), but most guests here would arrange for a private car to make the five- to 10-minute drive, anyway.
