Sofitel deserves credit for renovating the former Hotel Casino Carrasco, known locally as The Palace in the Sand, a stunning 1921 National Heritage building. This is now, arguably, the best hotel in Montevideo. The facade and elaborate interiors are magnificently restored and demonstrate the original early 1900s period architecture.
Its located on the edge of charming, upscale Carrasco, in front of the beach, giving guests an unbeatable view and easy access to the Rambla and shady historic town streets, where plentiful high-end dining and shops have sprouted up.
