In a picturesque waterfront location, across the pedestrian promenade from the marina and Castel dell'Ovo (there are amazing nighttime views of the castle from front-facing rooms), this is a slightly larger but less commercial version of the adjacent Excelsior.
Originally constructed in 1885 by a Belgian financier, the hotel hosted a who's who of the time, including Oscar Wilde, Erico Caruso and Grace Kelly. Unfortunately, WWII brought occupation and deterioration, and ultimately it was bombarded by the British.
