Description
Upscale colonial-style hotel set within lush vegetation & landscaped gardens on the beachfront in Umhlanga, just north of Durban.
Location and History
The Oyster Box is an upscale colonial-style hotel set within lush vegetation and landscaped gardens on the beachfront in Umhlanga just north of Durban and 15 minutes from its international airport. It's one of the most elegant hotels in the area, and its most famous feature is the stately red-and-white lighthouse that sits on the coast just in front.
The original Oyster Lodge was built in 1863 and was a simple cottage. It was extended into the hotel in 1954 on the site next to the lighthouse.
