Barcelo Hotels & Resorts completed the first phase of its $48 million renovation of the Barcelo Maya Beach Resort complex in the Riviera Maya.
The two-phased project focuses on the Barcelo Maya Beach and the Barcelo Maya Caribe resorts.
Completed renovations at the Barcelo Maya Beach include a new clubhouse, Club Premium lounge and hospitality area as well as an expanded lobby and redo of the buffet restaurant.
A Mexican specialty restaurant and air-conditioned lobby bar have been added.
The block of Club Premium suites, including 93 junior suits and 18 oceanfront premium suites, now have Jacuzzis on the terraces.
The wet bar and main pool area have been remodeled and a new kids' play pool has been added.
The second and final stage of the renovation focuses on the Barcelo Maya Caribe. The lobby, bars and restaurants are being upgraded.
New to the resort will be the Barcelo Maya Entertainment Center with a sports bar, bowling alley, teen disco, new kids club, paddle tennis courts and a redesigned miniature golf course.
The project is due to be completed by the end of the year.
The Barcelo complex in Riviera Maya is comprised of five all-inclusive resorts totaling 2,754 rooms, 20 restaurants, 19 bars, six pools for adults, two lap pools, two water parks and a spa.
