Mexican carrier Volaris will launch twice-weekly
service between Durango in northwestern Mexico and Chicago Midway on Dec. 8.
The carrier began service to Durango when it
launched service to Mexico City on May 15. The Chicago flight will mark the
first international air service for Durango.
“Our goal is for everyone to travel and for
Durango residents to have the possibility of visiting family and friends in the
U.S. at clean fares,” said Holger Blankenstein, commercial director.
Volaris offers an unbundled
fare structure, where customers can select the lowest base fare or opt to pay
extra for checked baggage and in-flight meals.
The colonial-era city hosts a number of
annual festivals and events and includes several tourist attractions, including
a number of open-air markets, museums and the Catedral Basilica Menor,
considered one of the most beautiful Baroque-style buildings in northern
Mexico.
