In
the wake of a truce in the Israel-Hezbollah conflagration, Israel
has launched a program to lure travelers back to Haifa and the
Galilee region in the northern part of the country.
Prior to the month
of violence, the region had expected its best tourism summer ever,
the Israel Ministry of Tourism said.
The new program,
called Galilee Spirit, is designed for Americans who may have
changed summer plans to avoid the north, said Arie Sommer, Israel
commissioner for tourism, North and South America.
He said Americans
"can express their caring and concern" by prepaying now for
discount-priced accommodations in northern Israel and use those
accommodations anytime through June 30. The vouchers could be given
away as gifts, as well, he said.
The Ministry of
Tourism worked with the Conference of Presidents of Major American
Jewish Organizations to create the plan, which must be booked by
Aug. 31.
