Pebble Beach Resorts unveiled its luxurious Fairway One at the Lodge complex last summer. Set along the first fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links, the facility's 30 guestrooms, two four-bedroom cottages and stand-alone event spaces are part of a resortwide refresh that will wrap up before the U.S. Open Championship tees off there next year.

Spacious, airy Fairway One accommodations feature fireplaces, coastal artwork, private patios and chic design details. Some rooms have partial ocean views, and all are within walking distance of resort restaurants, recreation and the Lodge at Pebble Beach. Golf draws many guests here, of course, but nongolfers will also find plenty of activities.

The Spa at Pebble Beach is one of just 56 Forbes Five-Star spas in the world. When I visited during a Fairway One media preview, I started my experience in a zero-gravity chair in the serene inhalation room, where light glows softly through a Himalayan salt brick wall.

One of the spa's signature services is the Lasapa Lelima Purification Treatment. Inspired by the region's indigenous Esselen tribe, the exfoliation, mud wrap and massage incorporate white sage, elderberry and sea salt. A moisture-infusing body treatment opens the spa's Cloud Nineteen Flotation Wrap. The guest is then wrapped in a waterproof cocoon and set adrift in a tub of warm water, with guided meditation or 25 minutes of napping available as optional add-ons.

Overnight guests at Fairway One and the Lodge at Pebble Beach can reserve a complimentary Lexus for up to two hours and follow the 17-Mile Drive through the surrounding Del Monte Forest. The self-guided sightseeing tour passes cypress groves, grand homes and rugged shores that unfold into wide, windswept beaches. Maps are available at the resort gates or via the Pebble Beach smartphone app.

Guided horseback adventures departing from the Pebble Beach Equestrian Center also explore nearly 30 miles of beachfront and forested paths. The facility also offers riding lessons for all skill levels and by-reservation pony rides for children ages 3 to 6. From the resort and the equestrian facilities, hikers can head to the three-mile Red Trail Loop, a mostly flat route along Spyglass Hill Golf Course, or the more challenging Green Trail Loop. The 10.5-mile path climbs 650 feet on its way across pine forests and sand dunes.

A Pebble Beach resort stay also includes complimentary access to the Beach & Tennis Club, an oceanfront wellness hub with yoga, Pilates and fitness classes, personal training sessions, exercise equipment and a swimming pool. Court reservations and tennis lessons take place on eight Plexipave and two Har-Tru clay courts.

The Beach & Tennis Club is located on Stillwater Cove, a quiet inlet near the 7th and 17th holes of Pebble Beach Golf Links. It's a popular spot for kayaking and stand-up paddling, and travelers who stroll along this striking seafront might spot sea otters splashing just off the shore.

Fairway One at the Lodge rooms start at $975 per night; a four-bedroom cottage reservation, including all living spaces, is $6,940 per night. Visit www.pebblebeach.com.
