WASHINGTON -- Southwest topped all the major U.S. airlines in
on-time performance in June, with 85.4% of its flights arriving
within 15 minutes of schedule, the Transportation Dept. disclosed
in its monthly Air Travel Consumer Report.
Southwest edged out America West, which posted an on-time
performance of 85.2%.
US Airways ranked worst among the majors at 77.7%.
Among all the 17 airlines that now report their monthly numbers
to the DOT, Skyways ranked best at 90.3% and Atlantic Southeast
ranked last at 72.5%.
The DOT's report also included the rate of involuntary denied
boarding, or bumping, for April through June.
With recent load-factor numbers showing airlines now filling
more of their seats, perhaps it shouldn't be surprising that the
number of bumped passengers has increased slightly.
The combined rate of 14 U.S. airlines increased to 1.08 per
10,000 passengers, higher than the 0.9 figure for the first quarter
of this year.
Among the major carriers, America West bumped the least, at 0.4
per 10,000, and Delta bumped the most, at 1.68.
Among all 14 carriers that reported their numbers, Atlantic
Southeast bumped the most by far, at 11.79 per 10,000.
At the other end of the spectrum was JetBlue, which doesn't
overbook and didn't bump anyone.
