WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Rail Europe made several changes to its Rail
'n Drive passes for 2000, including a lower priced Italy product, a
shorter BritRail Pass 'n Drive and a more flexible ScanRail 'n
Drive Pass.
The Italy Rail 'n Drive Pass, which provides three rail days and
two car days, is now offered with second class rail, a $73 savings
when compared with the first class product.
Prices start at $185 for two adults traveling together by second
class rail and using an economy car rental.
Another change to the Italy Rail 'n Drive Pass is the inclusion
of the collision damage waiver, mandatory theft insurance and local
taxes.
The BritRail Pass 'n Drive was changed from six days to five,
with three rail days and two car days.
For the ScanRail 'n Drive Pass used in Norway, Sweden, Denmark
and Finland, the five rail days and two car days can now be used in
a two-month period, as opposed to the previous 15-day time
frame.
The 17-country Euraildrive Pass in 2000 will have cars with
automatic transmissions available at major locations when Hertz is
used. Previously, cars with automatic transmissions weren't
available with this product. (Rail Europe's Rail 'n Drive passes
use either Hertz or Avis.)
Rail Europe's Rail 'n Drive passes enable clients to combine car
and rail without the requirement of traveling consecutive days.
Passes can be bought with a minimum of three rail days and two
car days in most cases; passengers can add more rail and car days
to their itinerary.
The passes are available for one country (France, Italy, Spain),
a regional group of countries (Scandinavia, Great Britain) or
Europe-wide (the Euraildrive Pass or Europass Drive for the five
most popular countries).
