The former Barcelo La Jolla de Mismaloya was rebranded the Barcelo Puerto Vallarta to emphasize its location in that tourism hotspot, said the company.

The all-inclusive, all-suite resort completed a multimillion-dollar renewal project in 2007 that included the resort's 317 one- and two-bedroom suites, its swimming pools and contemporary lounge as well as the addition of a new Italian restaurant, Capri.

The hotelier also invested in a beach rejuvenation program. The resort received AAA Four Diamond status as well as Green Globe certification for sustainability in travel and tourism after the recent renovation.

This article has been corrected to reflect that the resort was not a former Camino Real property.
