LOS ANGELES -- George D. Kirkland, the president and CEO of the Los
Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau, died in his home here
Wednesday.
Kirkland,60, reportedly had been ill with cancer.
Kirkland served in a number of leadership roles in the travel
industry during his career, including as president of the CVBs of
San Francisco, Miami and Kansas City, Mo.
Kirkland served as chairman the American Society of Association
Executives, as national chair of the Travel Industry Association of
America in the late 1990s and as chair of the Convention Industry
Council. He was also on the executive committee of the Travel
Business Roundtable.
A mass will be held in celebration of Kirkland's life on
Monday.
