We hear a lot about travel agent appreciation programs from suppliers in every segment of the industry. In many cases, there's little more than a decent fam rate being offered. Read More
But sometimes a program comes along that proves actions speak louder than words. That's the case with one Florida resort's new appreciation policy, and other hotels around the country ought to take notice.
It's the Naples Bay Resort, on Florida's Paradise Coast. The program has several aspects that affect retailers and their clients.
There is a site inspection rate, of course. It's $75 per room, per night, but it covers more than just luxury guestroom accommodations. It entitles agents to a poolside cabana, use of all recreational amenities and 30% off services at the resort's spa.
The program goes the extra mile with a policy that says all bookings that originated with a travel agent will include a "special welcome amenity" for guests when they arrive, and it will be presented to the guest with the compliments of the agent. Accompanying the welcome amenity will be a note card from the retailer. This is a valuable perk for agents because it reinforces their connection with clients; everyone likes to feel like a VIP on vacation, and personal attention boosts the chances of repeat bookings.
The program also pledges that agent commissions will be processed within seven days of the guest's departure.
"We are so appreciative of our business relationship with travel professionals across the country, and of the business they bring to us," said Rikki Boparai, general manager. "We wanted to accommodate them and their customers in an especially meaningful way."
The resort is on Naples Bay and offers accommodations with marina views and canal views in 85 rooms and suites, and several stand-alone cottages. It has several conference rooms and specializes in destination weddings.
Summer rates start at $159 per room.
