TAMPA, Fla. -- 800 Travel Systems Inc., an Internet and 800-number
retailer of discounted travel products, named Peter Sontag
president, effective immediately.
Sontag also will sit on the company's board.
The current president, Mark Mastrini, will retain his duties as
chief executive officer and chief operating officer.
Most recently, Sontag was chairman of Thor, a Colorado-based
travel telecommunications outsourcing and publishing company.
Last September, he engineered the sale and merger of Thor to
Trip.com, a Web site for business travelers.
Sontag also was chairman and chief executive officer of the
mostly corporate travel agency USTravel.
In other developments, 800 Travel Systems, enhanced its
technology system, RIS (Interactive Reservation Internet System),
said Michael Gaggi, the company's founder.
IRIS allows customers who access the company's Web site,
www.lowairfare.com, to interact with a travel agent.
Changes to the system will "use agents more efficiently,"
allowing them to serve more than one client at a time and "close
substantially higher sales," said Gaggi.
