Prepaid calling cards to pay agents 20%

WASHINGTON -- TravelConnect, a prepaid calling card that works domestically or in 40 foreign countries, is the latest commissionable product available for travel agents to sell through ARC.

Agents can use a manual tour order, submitted in the regular ARC sales report, to purchase cards for $1 each. The fee is recouped later when a card is sold to a client. The minimum order is 100 cards for $100, plus a flat $7 shipping fee. The cards come in denominations of $15, $25 or $50, and can be purchased in any combination.

When cards are sold to a client, agents use a manual tour order to report the sale. Agents take a 20% commission up front plus the initial $1 card payment.

Therefore, the sale of a $15 card nets $4 ($3 plus $1); a $25 card yields $6 ($5 plus $1), and a $50 card earns $11 ($10 plus $1).

Before selling the calling cards, agents must complete a registration form and an agreement form and fax them to TravelConnect.

The forms and complete ticketing instructions are on ARC's Web site at www.arccorp.com and fax-back service at (800) 811-1608, document 835.

TravelConnect, a product from SmartCall, is the eighth supplier to join ARC that isn't an airline or a railroad. Other "travel and destination vendors" are theme parks operated by Universal Studios, Disney and Anheuser-Busch.

Greyhound Lines, Kemwel Holiday Autos, Julian Tours and CityPass are additional participants.
