COVINA, Calif. -- Gov. Srivastava -- it practically rolls off the
tongue, doesn't it?
Tony Srivastava, founder and CEO of CruiseShipCenter Travel
here, planned to be on California's recall ballot on Oct. 7 but
instead found himself on the outside looking in as the deadline to
declare candidacy passed Aug. 9.
Srivastava, 40, said he wanted to be governor because he has "a
lot of ideas on how to fix California's problems."
And, he said, if there could be a series of open debates giving
all candidates an equal opportunity -- along the lines of a "last
man standing" contest, he would have had as good a chance as
anyone.
Srivastava aimed to register as a candidate on deadline day but
learned that the state would only look at 100 of his 400
signatures, and 65 of those 100 had to be registered Republicans
(his party) and from his county.
He was offered a computer to check the names on his list, but he
had run out of time. So, will he run another day?
Yes -- he'll be back, he said -- running for governor or another
public office in California.
