ROSEMONT, Ill. -- DER Travel Services here launched a new version
of its electronic Railpass-issuing software, DER Select, which for
the first time features point-to-point ticket issuing capabilities.
The feature was created in direct response to agent feedback, a
spokeswoman for DER said.
The point-to-point ticket issuing capabilities include drop-down
menus that offer a choice of point of origin, destination and route
selection.
The upgrade maintains the point-and-click functionality and
allows for multiple rail segments to be booked per passenger.
Point-to-point tickets are printed on the same paper stock as
Railpasses.
In addition, travel agents can access train schedules through
their CRS using Solarnet or via DER's Web site. Seat and sleeper
reservations can be made by calling DER.
DER Select requires no special hardware and can be installed on
virtually any computer, according to the firm. It is available in
single- and multiuser versions and is provided free of charge to
all DER rail outlets.
To become a DER rail outlet, an agency must show a record of
booking European rail with DER. The spokeswoman said, however, that
there is no specific number of passes that must be booked in order
to for an agency to qualify as an outlet.
"A good number to go by would be 50 to 100 passes a year ...
though we encourage any agency booking European rail to sign on as
a DER rail outlet," she said.
The rail outlet department can be reached at (888) 337-3736, or
on the Web at www.der.travel.com.
