AS LOS CABOS TOURISM
grows, so does the need for a bigger airport. The company that
operates Los Cabos Airport approved an additional $60.2 million to
expand the airport and renovate its existing facilities. Grupo
Aeroportuario del Pacificos shareholders approved the measure on
Oct. 27, paving the way for construction of Terminal 4 and its
respective taxiways, access roads and parking, plus new commercial
space and a remodeling of the existing terminals. Grupo
Aeroportuario said it is accepting bids from suppliers for the
project, which is expected to get under way by the end of 2007 and
be completed in early 2009. The company said the expansion is
necessary to keep pace with an increase in traffic of about 18% in
each of the past three years.
THE MEXICO TOURISM BOARD
is bringing the beach to a frigid city near you. The board is once
again bringing glass-sided buses filled with sand, beach chairs and
palm trees to Canada and major U.S. cities for eight weeks this
winter. The Beaches on Wheels promotion kicked off Nov. 4 in Canada
and will visit Boston, Chicago, Detroit, New York and Minneapolis
by Dec. 28.
THE BUSES will include
TV screens showcasing Mexicos attractions as well as sunbathing
models who will hand out brochures and promotional materials. Tour
operators and local tourism board offices are expected to organize
special events in conjunction with the promotion. To find out when
the buses will visit the U.S., go to www.visitmexico.com.
