Marigot Bay Resort and Marina in St. Lucia, no longer associated with Capella Hotels & Resorts, has joined the Preferred Hotels & Resorts LVX Collection, which represents 220 independent luxury properties noted for their accommodations and personal service.

The resort and marina were reopened under the Capella banner in 2014, following a multimillion-dollar renovation of the former Discovery at Marigot Bay.

The affiliation with Preferred also has resulted in a new management team to lead the rebranding strategy, headed by Perle Flavien, director of resort operations and acting general manager.

"As one of the Caribbean's top luxury resorts, our goal is simple: to provide the finest accommodations, the best service and the most memorable experiences for our guests," Flavien said.

"Current industry research indicates that high-end independent hotels in the Caribbean region far outperform branded hospitality properties," he said. "This knowledge, combined with strong ownership involvement, our sales and marketing partners and our onsite leadership team, will set us up for success."

The shift in approach is expected to enhance current reservations, according to Flavien.

Travel professionals can book directly with the resort at as well as through preferred and on the Preferred Hotels & Resorts PH GDS chain code.

As a new LVX Collection member, Marigot Bay launched an introductory offer of 15% commission for bookings made through Oct. 31.

The 124-room resort includes 57 suites, many of which feature private hot tubs.

The Grill restaurant menu features items and ingredients from local farmers and fishermen, while the Rum Cave houses specialty local rums and offers rum tasting classes in a cozy space reminiscent of an authentic distillery.

The resort has a spa, offers sailing classes and diving and can arrange offsite activities such as hiking, horseback riding, sunset cruises and fishing charters.
