Carnival Cruise Lines took delivery of the Carnival Magic during a ceremony April 27 at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, where the 130,000-ton vessel was built.
The ship will debut on May 1, following a naming ceremony in Venice, and sail a nine-day Mediterranean cruise from Venice to Barcelona.
New features include the RedFrog Pub; Cucina del Capitano, a family-style Italian restaurant; and SportSquare, an open-air recreation complex with a ropes course and outdoor fitness area.
Following the inaugural voyage, the 3,600-passenger Carnival Magic will sail a series of seven- to 12-day Mediterranean departures from Barcelona through Oct. 16, then reposition to Galveston, Texas, for year-round seven-day Caribbean departures beginning Nov. 14.
