Carnival
Corp., Fincantieri and the China State Shipbuilding Corp. (CSSC) revealed further
details of their joint venture in China, which includes a
provision that Carnival will buy the vessels built by the venture.
Fincantieri
and CSSC signed an agreement covering that and other terms of the venture on
July 4 in Shanghai, according to an announcement by Fincantieri.
The venture’s ships will be built at the Shanghai
Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding facility, which is also a party to the agreement.
The agreement provides that the venture’s
output is “exclusively intended and specifically customized for” the
Chinese and Asian market.
Fincantieri will license its technology
platform to the joint venture and the SWS shipyard, and will “perform the
activities within its competence through the joint venture.”
No further details were given
about the size or type of ships to be built by the venture, or a timetable for
delivery.
