Celebrity cancels two Infinity sailings

MIAMI -- Celebrity Cruises cancelled two Hawaii sailings on the Infinity because of propulsion problems.

The line will send the Infinity into drydock and replace ball-bearing units in the ship's propulsion system.

Guests on the cancelled sailings, an 12-day cruise on Feb. 2 and an 11-day cruise on Feb. 13, will receive a full refund and 50% off a future Celebrity cruise of 13 days or less.

Agent commissions will be protected; a $50 rebooking fee is offered.

This is the third time the Infinity has entered unscheduled drydock because of ball-bearing problems, noted Robin Farley, an analyst with UBS Warburg.

"Celebrity's other Millennium-class ships have had their share of problems," Farley added, citing ball-bearing problems on the Millennium and the Summit and a leak in the Constellation's propulsion pod.
