MIAMI -- Celebrity Cruises canceled three cruises in Alaska and
Europe due to technical problems.
In Alaska, the line canceled the June 8 and June 15 sailings of
the 1,900-passenger Infinity, due to a faulty ball bearing in the
vessel's starboard propulsion unit.
Infinity is expected to return to service June 22. Guests booked
on the June 8 cruise will receive refunds and vouchers for a free
seven-day Celebrity cruise.
Guests on the June 15 sailing will receive refunds and vouchers
for a 50% discount off a seven-day cruise. Agent pay is protected,
and agents who rebook clients will earn a $50 fee.
In Europe, a damaged propeller forced Celebrity to cancel a
14-day northern Europe cruise aboard the 1,870-passenger Galaxy.
The ship returned to port shortly after leaving Amsterdam on June
3. The line later canceled the cruise.
Celebrity expects Galaxy to resume sailing on June 16. Guests
will receive refunds and a free future cruise. Travel agent
commissions are protected.
