Princess Cruises named Captain Giuseppe
Romano as commodore of the company's 16-ship fleet.
The 31-year veteran
of Princess, and before that Sitmar Cruises, is now the senior
master of the fleet, a title Princess said is traditionally given
to the most senior captain of a fleet of ships. The position
represents the highest rank attainable to a Princess
mariner.
Commodore Romano,
age 56, is presently serving aboard the Caribbean Princess where he
has been master since 2004.
Romano hails is
from Sorrento, Italy, and began his maritime career in 1970,
Princess said, as a cadet with the now-defunct Lauro Lines. He
joined Sitmar Cruises as a second officer in the summer of 1976 and
was appointed captain of the former Dawn Princess in December
1990.
