Renaissance delivers $1M bond to ASTA

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Renaissance Cruises turned over to ASTA a $1 million bond that guarantees the line's pledges to travel agents, but the cruise company won't be eligible to reapply for membership until June 2001, according to ASTA bylaws.

ASTA president Joe Galloway said, "We can do all sorts of cooperative things without [changing] our bylaws, which would take almost as long."

Paul Ruden, ASTA staff senior vice president, said, "What's important is that Renaissance has said it will act like a member."
