Chang was chief business development officer at Lindblad Expeditions and previously had been the chief financial officer at Frontida BioPharm. He also held senior roles at Jefferies.

He will succeed current CEO Eric Krafft, who owns Star Clippers and will remain executive chairman.

Star Clippers called the leadership transition a strategic move "as the industry experiences unprecedented demand for boutique, sustainable and off-the-beaten-path travel experiences."

Chang said he aims to "elevate our guest experience, broaden our global reach and continue innovating intimate, sustainable voyages that larger vessels simply cannot replicate, all while remaining completely steadfast to the timeless spirit of wind-driven sailing."

The Star Clippers fleet consists of three sailing ships: the Royal Clipper, the Star Clipper and the Star Flyer.
