Trial travails: Pod problems for Constellation

ST. NAZAIRE, France -- Celebrity Cruises newest ship, the Constellation, was returned to drydock to correct a leak in the ship's starboard propulsion pod.

The Constellation was operating sea trials when the leak was discovered; the ship was returned to the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard here for immediate repairs.

A one-night preview cruise and a charter cruise, sailing May 5 from Barcelona, Spain, will be canceled.

Celebrity officials said they would know May 6 the extent of the repairs and if the ship would be ready for its first revenue cruise on May 12. If the May 12 cruise is canceled, Celebrity said a full refund and "additional compensation" will be provided to impacted guests.

The line established a help desk to assist agents with questions at (888) 305-4549.
