VIRGIN GORDA, British Virgin Islands -- Congratulations to Biras
Creek Resort, the newest Caribbean member of Relais &
Chateaux's 400-member worldwide association of premier hotels and
restaurants.
The 33-suite property at the north end of Virgin Gorda in the
British Virgin Islands was the only Caribbean property to be named
a member for 1999. Biras joins four other Caribbean resorts
selected by Relais & Chateaux in past years. They are: Cobblers
Cove in Barbados; the Horned Dorset Primavera in Puerto Rico, and
Le Toiny and Filao Beach Hotel, both in St. Barts.
Membership in Relais & Chateaux is predicated on meeting and
retaining standards of excellence in the areas of service, food,
comfort and surroundings. The selection process includes anonymous
ongoing inspections by the association's board of directors, who
place particular emphasis on cuisine.
Biras Creek's executive chef, Daniel Patterson, joined the
resort in 1996, after more than 15 years in Europe, several of
which were spent at other Relais & Chateaux member hotels.
Patterson's menus at Biras Creek combine continental and Caribbean
cuisine.
Winter rates at Biras Creek start at $570 per suite, per night,
double, and include all meals. Biras offers several winter season
packages. One combines accommodations on land and on the resort's
sailing yacht. Room rates and packages are commissionable at
10%.
