HAVANA -- Cuba's national telecom company, ETECSA, selected the
Cuba Travel Network to provide online hotel booking technology for
the telecom company's travel Web site.
The decision means that visitors to the site at www.cubasi.cu may soon
be able to book more than 100 Cuban hotels in 14 localities.
Eddie Lubbers, president of Cuba Travel Network, said its ETECSA
affiliation "will position ETECSA as one of Cuba's key Internet
distributors. Being able to book hotels online in real time is very
unusual in Cuba."
For U.S. citizens, the new booking capability is subject to
regulations administered by the U.S. Treasury Dept. that restrict
who can legally travel to Cuba.
