MIAMI -- The Backstreet Club, a facility for teen-agers, is now
available aboard Carnival Cruise Line's Fascination. Carnival
decked the club out with a CD jukebox, a dance floor and a
sound-and-lighting system.
Geared for passengers ages 16 to 18, the club offers Internet
access, video games and a "mocktail" lounge serving nonalcoholic
versions of the line's frozen drinks. A karaoke machine and a
library with teen-oriented magazines also are available.
According to Carnival officials, older teens comprise a
significant portion of the estimated 350,000 children expected to
sail on the line's ships next year. The teen club complements the
Fascination's supervised activities and indoor and outdoor play
areas, and adds to the line's complimentary Camp Carnival program
for kids between the ages of 2 and 15. Carnival plans to add teen
clubs to other vessels. The Imagination is next in line to be
fitted with a teen club.
