Monterey Hyatt breaks ground on spa June 9

The Hyatt Regency Monterey in Monterey, Calif., redubbed the Hyatt Regency Monterey Resort & Spa on Del Monte Golf Course, kicks off the third phase of its $55 million reinvention on June 9 by breaking ground on a state-of-the-art luxury spa.

The 12,000-square-foot, bilevel spa and salon will occupy Building 12. All 20 guestrooms in the building will be taken out of inventory as of June 1 to allow for construction of the $6.2 million spa.

First-floor facilities will include a lobby; retail space; hair salon; locker rooms with whirlpools and steam rooms; and fitness and exercise areas. The second floor will house five treatment rooms and four spa suites with fireplaces, including one couple's suite with a soaking tub for two.

The first two phases of the Hyatt Regency Monterey Resort & Spa's renovation, started in 2007, includes the complete redesign  of the lobby, restaurant and lounge and all 575 guestrooms, including 32 suites and the president's house, scheduled for completion by the end of June.
