ROAD TOWN, British Virgin Islands -- Prospect Reef's Thalasso Spa
grabbed my fancy.
The two treatment parlors, although rustic and somewhat small,
provided a relaxing atmosphere.
At the rear of each parlor was an open window, almost the width
of the room, that offered ocean views and breezes.
These ingredients are the "secret" of the Thalasso method, a
therapy that uses the properties of sea water and applications of
sea mud and select seaweeds.
Florence Wojcieszak, director, described the facility as a
full-service European-style thalasso therapy spa like those found
in France.
The spa's location is ideal for the methods used, according to
Wojcieszak.
"The oxygen in the sea air and the irons and minerals in the sea
spray that come through the open windows contribute to the spa
experience," Wojcieszak said.
Prospect's Thalasso Spa opened in February. Up to five more
units will be added once other expansion projects are
completed.
The spa is open to the public as well as guests from 8 a.m. to
6:30 p.m. daily.
Four separate five-day treatment programs are available and can
be sold by travel agents:
Thalgo Tonic (the classic cure), 10 hours, $560.Thalgo Stress Control, 11 hours, $660.Thalgo Veintonic, 12 hours, $710.Thalgo Slimming, 13-and- a-half hours, $820.The one-day, four-hour Sea Beauty package is $250.
Individual treatment prices range from $20 for a facial analysis
to $55 for Thalgomince (silhouette refining and firming) and $115
for California massage aromatherapy.
My spa visit included a few questions about my lifestyle, a
pinch-and-pat body analysis and a foot aroma/reflexology treatment,
performed with ocean sounds as the backdrop. She had to wake me at
the end.
Wojcieszak, who is French, and an assistant perform the
treatments for resort guests as well as clients from other
properties and from the area.
