A&K Sanctuary has relocated its Ngorongoro Crater Camp to a new part of the Tanzanian conservation area.

The boutique luxury lodge is an Abercrombie & Kent property and reopened in June with 10 tented suites. The redesigned camp is more immersive and reflective of East Africa, the company said.

The new location is located on a hillside with a view of the Serengeti, situated 25 minutes from the Ngorongoro Crater descent road. The area is home to more than 25,000 animals, including the Big Five.

The property was redesigned in collaboration with East African studio JPN Interior Design with an emphasis on regional artistry. A&K said 97% of the interiors were locally made. Furniture was handcrafted in Arusha, while decor was sourced with artisans across the region.

Designers pulled inspiration from the landscape, using greys, browns, charcoal and sage greens to reflect the area, while paying homage to traditional Maasai design. One standout piece of decor is a chandelier created from jacaranda seed pods.

Each suite has been expanded, featuring hardwood floors, king-size beds, ensuite bathrooms and private viewing decks.

The camp's relocation opens up more opportunities for experiences other than traditional game drives, A&K said, such as visiting the Great Migration calving grounds at Ndutu Plains, the ancient rock art site of Nasera and Shifting Sands.

Also in June, A&K Sanctuary opened Kitirua Plains Lodge, which borders Kenya’s Amboseli National Park. The brand said this new lodge coupled with the Ngorongoro relocation signals the line’s commitment to East Africa tourism.
