GRAFTON ESTATE, Tobago -- Heavy rains in recent months took their
toll on the construc-tion of a 50-room planta- tion-style hotel at
Sanc-tuary Villa Resort and Hotel here, delaying the completion of
the first phase by about one month.
According to Jacqueline Whitling, general manager, the frequent
and heavy rainfall delayed the opening of the first 22 rooms from
December to the end of January.
Also opening are a restaurant and a bar, a spa, a water park and
the Kaiso casino.
A second phase, scheduled to open in April, consists of 28 more
rooms as well as a dive school, a restaurant and a bar, a
children's club, a full-service health club and an on-site
casino.
Room furnishings will include objects and decor created by
Trinidadian designers Charisse Parsons and Verena Nunez Mostyn.
Design themes revolve around a toucan (parrot), seahorse, turtle
and anthurium, a type of colorful local plant.
Four executive suites will have their own individual themes as
well.
All rooms will include a king-size bed or two double beds; air
conditioning and ceiling fans, and verandas with views of Buccoo
Reef or the Caribbean Sea.
Amenities will include cable television, a coffeemaker, an
ironing board and iron, an in-room safe and a hair dryer.
Eateries are to include the gourmet Wild Ginger restaurant, an
open-air establishment serving breakfast and dinner.
For light fare, there will be the Pacu-Pacu bistro cafe; De Hems
pub and microbrewery, and Max's Pool & Swim-up Bar.
The Eaux Vives spa will offer massages, facials and hair and
nail treatments.
Iguana Mama, a water park, will have three waterslides and pools
for adults and children.
Another option for youngsters will be the Kiskadee Kids-club,
open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the 4 to 12 age group.
In addition to the planned 50 hotel rooms, Sanctuary Villa
Resort and Hotel will feature 39 one- to three-bedroom villas, each
with plunge pools or Jacuzzis.
The villas include 20 semidetached Heaven villas and 19 private
villas.
The resort is located 15 minutes from Scarborough and 20 minutes
from Crown Point Airport. A beach and a golf course are nearby.
