PISCADERA BAY, Curacao -- For someone like me with a phobia
regarding water sports, the Curacao Marriott Beach Resort &
Emerald Casino here has just the ticket.
The resort has joined with Caribbean Sea Sports, a dive center
adjacent to the property, to offer the Ocean Discovery program
beginning this month.
This program combines an introduction to the ocean with a
complimentary Discover Snorkeling course.
The Tuesday-morning course features an introduction to water
safety, a description of the marine life in the waters off the
property, instruction on the use of snorkeling gear and a 20-minute
guided snorkeling excursion in a protected lagoon.
Guests who complete the class are eligible for a 10% discount on
future Discover Scuba courses offered through Caribbean Sea
Sports.
The dive shop offers one-tank dives every afternoon priced at
$35 for divers and $18 for snorkelers, and two-tank dives each
morning for $55 per person.
The costs cover use of gear, towels and transportation to a
variety of sites.
Dive gear and locker rentals entitle participants to unlimited
shore diving.
A one-time fee of $10 buys a dive tag, valid for a year.
The fees are used for reef protection measures, such as dive
buoys to mark open-sea dive sites.
