NASSAU, Bahamas -- When the Small Treasures hotel program began in
1997, it showcased 10 of Nassau and Paradise Island's smaller
properties.
Today, the roster of properties, now reaching the Out Islands
and Grand Bahama Island, totals 58.
The program is designed to help hotels with 100 rooms or less
compete with the marketing clout of the Bahamas' major resort
hotels.
There are 200 on-island properties that are eligible for the
program; about 30% meet its criteria.
The 58 properties carrying the Small Treasures flag represent a
wide range of accommodations from rustic bonefishing lodges to
lavish retreats.
This year, the program added properties on Eleuthera, Grand
Bahama Island, Harbour Island and Long Island.
They are the 22-room-and-suite Cigatoo Resort on Eleuthera; the
47-suite Old Bahama Bay and 30-room Running Mon Marina & Resort
on Grand Bahama Island; the seven-room Landing on Harbour Island,
and Long Island's nine-unit Gems at Paradise and the 12-room
Greenwich Creek Lodge.
