The global pandemic has inspired travel companies to find creative ways to keep their destinations top of mind, including a wealth of beautifully produced travel videos.
Away From the Ordinary, a luxury travel company that specializes in customized Scotland itineraries, is trying a different approach by offering free, handwritten postcards that subscribers of the company's newsletter can have sent anywhere directly from the Scottish Highlands.
The way it works is that subscribers choose an image of Scotland from an archive and craft a personal note, which the company will have handwritten onto a postcard and sent to the address supplied by the sender.
"It is a wonderful feeling helping other people express their love and support for each other during such a challenging time," said company founder Aeneas O'Hara.
"The messages we have received have been really touching and a great reminder how strong and caring humanity can be," he said, adding that his mother has been tapped to write the cards.
For travelers looking to book a trip to Scotland in 2021, the company can also arrange a video call with a "true Scottish character," including a descendant of Robert the Bruce, a local musician, a chef team and an "Outlander" guide, for suggestions.
During the pandemic lockdown, Away From the Ordinary has also kept busy facilitating digital, customizable whisky tastings as a way to whet the appetites of would-be travelers and inspire them for future bookings.
