Hawaiian Airlines has announced plans to resume service to Fukuoka, Japan, by the end of 2019.

The airline is adding nonstop service between Honolulu and Fukuoka and hopes to launch the route by November, the company said in a statement. The flights are still pending government approval.

Hawaiian plans to operate four weekly flights between Fukuoka Airport on the island of Kyushu and Honolulu's Daniel K. Inouye International Airport on Oahu using Airbus A330 aircraft.

Fukuoka Prefecture is home to 5 million residents, and Hawaiian previously operated the same route from 2012 to 2014. Hawaiian's current Japan network includes nonstop service connecting the Hawaiian Islands with both Haneda and Narita airports in Tokyo, in addition to Osaka and Sapporo.
