Location and History
This historic hotel is one of Bucharest's earliest luxury hotels and one of Romania's most famous. Athenee has always been known for excellent service, elegance and gourmet cuisine. The Athenee opened in 1914, and it was purposefully situated between the Romanian Athenaeum and the former Royal Palace as a building for hospitality.
This place has a colorful history, filled with visiting royalty and dignitaries. Under the communist regime, Athenee Palace Hotel was notorious as the home and meeting place of international spies and the Gestapo.
