This impeccable period piece dating to 1896 lacks the intimate ambience and exemplary service of the Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton, but it operates at a high level, exemplifying fin de siecle grandeur.
It originally opened as the Grand Hotel Royal, and its cupola-topped and ornate facade lead many to call it the original "Grand Hotel Budapest," a nod to the movie of the same name. Director Wes Anderson is said to have stayed here and taken this hotel as inspiration for the film.
